There are plenty of designers out there that can make something look pretty. Good design has to fist answer the questions of why are we doing this and how are we achieving this before any design solution can start to bring value to a project.
Direction, support, and trust
A good creative leader is someone who offers their team support when and if needed, nurtures their strengths, supports their goals, and takes a giant step back. Creatives thrive through collaboration, not micromanagement.
A designer and a story teller
Presenting design work comes with the territory. And in my experience, it's all about the story you're telling. No one wants to hear about what they can already see in front of them. They need to understand what emotions the design should be evoking and how the design helps to achieves a goal.
